Bahamians Shine at Conference Championships

UNITED STATES – Bahamian track and field stars delivered a huge weekend across multiple NCAA Conference Championships, collecting titles, records and major awards.

Headlining the action, Keyshawn Strachan won the javelin at the big ten championships for the Nebraska Cornhuskers with a throw of 79.36 meters.

At the MAC Championships, it was a dominant performance from Andrew Styles of the Akron Zips when he was named Men’s Most Valuable Performer after winning double gold.

Styles ran a career-best 46.22 seconds to win the 400 meters – the second-fastest time in program history, before adding the 200 meters title in 20.70 seconds.

Over at the C-USA Championships, Tahj Brown made history for the Liberty Flames with a winning time of 13.58 seconds in the 100m hurdles, breaking the program and freshman record.

Louisiana Tech’s Oscar Smith finished second in 13.60 seconds, his fifth top-three finish of the outdoor season.

Then at the WAC championships, Tarleton State’s Jalen Cadet won the long jump title with a leap of 7.56 meters while teammate Jonathan Rogers took bronze at 7.09 meters.

Charlton Sets New 100m Hurdles National Record

Bahamian track and field stars delivered big performances on the international circuit this weekend.

Devynne Charlton set a new Bahamian national record in the 100 meters hurdles, finishing second at the Diamond League Meet in China at 12.38 seconds – the fastest season opener of her career.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo continued her comeback with a second-place finish in the women’s 200 meters, clocking 22.26 seconds – her fastest time in five years.

Then in Japan, Rhema Otabor won the women’s javelin at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix with a season best throw of 61.57 meters.

Davis Cup Players “Devastated” by Withdrawl

The latest chapter in the leadership dispute atop the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association means that for the first time The Bahamas has withdrawn from the Davis Cup.

The organization’s interim board members accused immediate past president Perry Newton of removing the team from the Americas Zone III tie next month in Costa Rica.

In 2024, The Bahamas was relegated to group four, but in 2025, the team of Donte Ambrister, Denali Nottage, Michael Major Jr, and Kofi Bowe, went undefeated to earn promotion to Americas Group III.
