UNITED STATES – It’s conference championship time, and it was an active weekend for Bahamian student-athletes across the leagues in NCAA Division I.

Anthaya Charlton delivered a series of standout performances for the Florida Gators, headlined by the SEC conference title in her signature event, the long jump.

Charlton won the outdoor title with her leap of 6.47m on her third attempt.

A day later, she claimed bronze in the 100m in 11.14 seconds.

At the Big East Championships, Demetrius Rolle reached the medal podium three times for DePaul and won two conference championships.

He won the 100m in a Big East record 10.24 seconds and returned to finish second in the 200m at 21.26 seconds.

In the Mid-American Conference Championships, quartermiler Andrew Styles of the Akron Zips won his third 400m league title in a personal best, 46.96 seconds.


Buddy Hield called his lone season with the Golden State Warriors one of the most gratifying experiences of his NBA career.

The Warriors’ season concluded with a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.

It was Hield’s longest playoff run of his NBA career, which has included stints with the New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, and Philadelphia 76ers over nine NBA seasons.


The John McEnroe Tennis Center at Baha Mar is preparing to host a series of events featuring several new initiatives for racquet sport enthusiasts.

The club has plans to host tennis, pickleball, and padel events in the near future.

On May 24, the club will host the Nassau Tennis Cup, featuring local pros and amateurs, and the following weekend, on May 31, they will host the Bahamas Pickleball Federation Tournament.

As a mainstay for one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, the club will also launch the Pickleball Night League and junior pickleball programs.

July will see the introduction of the Summer Junior Tennis Program and the opening of new padel courts.
