NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Immigration Minister Keith Bell is on the defense after an audio clip went viral of him bestowing citizenship at a surprising location, a funeral service. 

It was this viral audio clip that has sparked debate and now the immigration and labour minister is on the defense.

Bell defending his actions Tuesday after he granted citizenship to the wife of a dead Bahamian man at his funeral on Saturday.

He responded to critics who called his actions inappropriate, noting that the deceased was an honorable individual who served the country with distinction for many years.

In the viral audio clip, the immigration minister admitted to his actions being unorthodox.

When questioned Tuesday on why he chose to bestow citizenship at that time, Bell responded this way.
