NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As power bills decline for many, Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association President Robert ‘Sandy’ Sands says hotels aren’t seeing the drop-off.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As power bills decline for many, Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association President Robert ‘Sandy’ Sands says hotels aren’t seeing the drop-off.
Sands adds the concern remains especially for those hotels in the Family Islands. He says many properties were hit with about a 100% increase in power bills.
Now many hotels are looking to move towards renewable energy in hopes of bringing down costs.
Additionally, Sands revealed electricity is the second largest expense, noting that this summer has been an anomaly.
But that’s not the only challenge for the hotel industry.
He says the cost of doing business is also a concern.
Coupled with cost increases, crime remains paramount as everyone wants to feel safe when traveling.
