UNITED STATES – Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden will pardon nearly 2,500 nonviolent drug offenders before he demits office.

The announcement Friday, commutes the sentences of people convicted and serving disproportionately long sentences.

The President did not specify timelines or qualifying criteria.

Biden said “This action is an important step toward righting historic wrongs, correcting sentencing disparities, and providing deserving individuals the opportunity to return to their families.”
