NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 14-year tradition continues this week with the observance of Disabilities Awareness Week.

A number of disability organizations are coming together to raise awareness and foster inclusivity. Deputy Chairman for the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities is Kendrick Rolle.

Now imagine, playing games like dominoes, basketball or even baseball, but blind. Well, Rolle says the blindfold challenge was created to allow those with sight to walk a mile or run a base in the shoes of the visually impaired.

Participants play with a special ball that beeps so the batter is able to hear it upon approach.

First base, which is this blue raised object, also makes a beeping sound to help guide the player but Rolle says the games didn’t stop there thanks to a number of their partners.
