VIRGINIA – Boar’s Head announced the indefinite closure of its Virginia plant on Friday, following a deadly listeria outbreak tied to its liverwurst.

The company also permanently discontinued liverwurst sales.

At least 9 people have died, and dozens have been hospitalized across 18 states. The contamination was traced to a specific production process at the Jarratt facility.

Boar’s Head is implementing new safety measures, including creating a food safety council and recruiting a Chief Food Safety Officer.

The company had previously recalled over 7 million pounds of deli meat due to the outbreak.
