BPL Looking To Recoup $21m After Wartsila Deal

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – One day after it was revealed that Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) saw a $21m cost overrun for improvements at the Station A Power Plant, Energy Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis the power company is looking at ways to bring finances back in alignment.

She says there are also plans in place for maintenance work.

She adds the plan is also to change the fuel mix to lower cost.

 A report on the agreement between Wartsila and BPL revealed the cost ballooned from 96..9 m to $117.9m.

The new management board at BPL terminated the agreement with Wartsila.

As a result, the power company now has to find ways to source generation in time for the summer load in 2024.
