NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Michael Johnson, the former head of the Criminal Investigation, has been accused of stealing $90,000 from a suspect in last November’s heist from an armored car.

Prosecutors allege that Johnson stole the money from Akeil Holmes, a former employee at ICS, on November 3, 2023.

Holmes is currently on bail for the theft of $1.475 million that belonged to the Bank of The Bahamas.

Johnson is also accused of receiving the money from Sergeant 3726 Deangelo Rolle, who was part of the investigation. Rolle is also accused of abetting Johnson in the offense of stealing.

Prosecutors say that Johnson acted as an accessory after the fact to the alleged mastermind of the theft, Michael Fox Jr, by enabling him to avoid the due process of the law.

He’s accused of conspiring with Fox, Fox’ s attorney Bjorn Ferguson, to avoid solicit an advantage from Fox.

Meanwhile,  Ferguson is accused of acting as  an  accessory after the fact by allegedly helping Fox to avoid due process.

The men were not required to enter pleas to the charges when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley as prosecutors intend to try the matter in the Supreme Court.

The defendants spoke only to confirm their dates of birth

Johnson’s bail was set at $25,000, while Ferguson and Rolle were each granted $7,500 bail.

They are due to return to court on January 30 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.

The charges follow a months-long investigation following the release of secretly recorded phone conversations allegedly between Johnson, Fox and Ferguson.

The recordings were leaked after Fox a reputed gang leader was murdered in May 2024.
