NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bus drivers are up in arms after what they claim was the unlawful arrest of two of their fellow jitney drivers. 

The incident happened Thursday evening, prompting the union to look into a legal way to get the issue resolved. They’re also calling on the police commissioner to step in.

The incident that’s gone viral on social media prompting the Bahamas Unified Bus Drivers Union to take legal action against what they’re seeing as unlawful arrests.

Union General Secretary Corvell Colebrooke claims this isn’t the first time police have interfered with jitney drivers at the Frederick Street Bus Terminal. 

He claims it all started when newly graduated officers were stationed in the area.  

Colebrook says bus drivers are shocked by the incident.

At the time of the interview, Colebrook says one of the men was released from police custody while the other remains at the central police station. 

Police tell us a 48-year-old Windsor Place man was arrested for disorderly behaviour, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and obscene language. 

Meanwhile, bus driver Anthony Flowers who witnessed the ordeal says they’re owed an apology.
