CANADA – Canadian authorities say they plan to implements a two-year cap on foreign student admissions to address housing and healthcare pressures.

The cap, which will see the reduction of study permits by 35%, aims at system integrity and quality education, with each province getting a share based on population and student intake.

The cap applies to diploma and undergraduate programs, excluding permit renewals. This as work permits for private college grads are expected to end in September.

The move signals a shift in Canada’s historic open immigration policy, impacting universities and raising affordability concerns.
