Cartwright Just Misses Medal Podium

THE CARIBBEAN- Team Bahamas continued its athletics campaign at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, with Denisha Cartwright narrowly missing out on a medal.

Cartwright finished fourth in the women’s 100-meter hurdles final, clocking 12.99 seconds.

She was awarded the same official time as Paola Vazquez of Puerto Rico, but a photo finish determined Vazquez crossed the line in 12.981 seconds, while Cartwright was timed at 12.990, leaving the Bahamian just nine thousandths of a second outside the bronze medal position.

The result was especially tough for Cartwright after she qualified for the final with the fourth-fastest time of 13.26 seconds in the semifinals before improving by nearly three-tenths of a second in the final.

In the men’s discus, Tarajh Hudson recorded his best throw of the competition at 54.76 meters to finish fifth among nine competitors.

Meanwhile, Ian Kerr’s run ended in the men’s 200 meters after he finished sixth in his semifinal heat and 13th overall in 20.89 seconds, missing a spot in the final by just a quarter of a second.

Team Bahamas will continue competition in athletics, sailing, and equestrian as the games move toward their conclusion.

Jonquel Jones continued her strong season Wednesday night, recording her 12th double-double of the year as the New York Liberty defeated the Chicago Sky, 89-74.

The Bahamian star finished with 14 points, 15 rebounds, a season-high eight assists, and two blocked shots, falling just two assists shy of a triple-double.

Jones was a force on both ends of the floor, controlling the boards, anchoring the defense, and facilitating the offense as the Liberty pulled away in the second half.

The victory improved New York to 19-13, keeping the Liberty firmly in the WNBA playoff race as they continue to chase the league’s top teams.

Jones has once again established herself as one of the league’s most complete players, contributing as a scorer, rebounder, defender, and playmaker night after night.

Minor League Baseball

Bahamian prospect Ian Lewis Jr. continued his power surge, belting two home runs to lead the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to a 9-4 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits in Double-A Southern League action.

Lewis got the scoring started with his ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left-center field. Later in the game, he connected again for his 10th homer, giving him his second multi-home run performance of the 2026 season.

The two-homer outing continued what has been the best power season of his professional career. Through his first 54 games with Pensacola, the 23-year-old is batting .205 with 40 hits, 10 home runs, 26 RBIs, 32 runs scored, 24 stolen bases, and 13 extra-base hits.

It marked the second time this year that Lewis has hit two home runs in a game.

The first came at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, where he helped the Blue Wahoos to a record-setting 23-4 victory over the Barons. Lewis finished that game with two home runs and four RBIs, as Pensacola set franchise records for runs, hits, and home runs in a single game.

Known primarily for his speed and defensive versatility, Lewis has added consistent power to his game this season, reaching double-digit home runs while remaining one of the top baserunning threats in the Miami Marlins organization.
