UNITED STATES – R&B singer Cassie, born Casandra Ventura, released her first statement since a video surfaced showing rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs attacking her. She described how domestic violence “broke me down to someone I never thought I would become.” The video, from 2016, was released by CNN last week, and Ventura had accused Combs of assault in a lawsuit last year. Diddy apologized in an Instagram video, expressing disgust for his actions.

Ventura thanked her supporters on Instagram, emphasizing the importance of believing victims.

Last November, she settled a lawsuit against Combs, accusing him of rape and sexual trafficking. Combs’ lawyer maintained the settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing.
