CBL Launches Inaugural Academy for Girl’s in STEM

“Your daughter, niece, or even you watching can enroll in a unique opportunity. A program offering girls grades 9 through 12 training in STEM, funded by the Cable Cares Foundation.”

A new initiative is aiming to equip Bahamian girls with the skills and confidence to become future leaders in innovation and STEM.

“Ignite Her” is the first program under Cable Bahamas Limited’s Inspire Her Academy and will be delivered by Happy STEM Bahamas.

The 13-week program begins September 12, with sessions held twice per week.

It will provide participants with mentorship and hands-on learning focused on leadership, innovation, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Program Director Crichad Laing of Happy Humans Bahamas explains more about the areas participants will explore throughout the program.

“They’ll explore computer-aided design, being able to use 3D modeling software in a constructive way, bring designs to life and understand the technicality behind that, the math behind that, and then manufacture those through means of 3D printing or laser cutting. They’ll also be exposed to the foundation of programming, as we know software is everywhere.”

Other topics covered in the program include sensor programming and cybersecurity, giving participants the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience.

Participation is limited to 20 girls, and interested applicants must submit an application through the Cable Cares Foundation website, at www.cablecaresfoundation.com, with parental or guardian consent required.

Laing says no prior experience in STEM or coding is necessary, making the program accessible to girls who are interested in exploring these fields for the first time.

The deadline to apply for the “Ignite Her” program is this Friday, August 28.

That’s something unprecedented, and we really want to promote it.
