NASSAU, BAHAMAS – For the first time since its inception, the judiciary now has the ability to manage its own financial and administrative affairs.

It was a big step from the norm as the judiciary was usually just an adjunct to the Attorney General’s Office.

Chief Justice Sir Ian Winder says it allows for decisions to be made quickly…

Despite the significant achievement, winder admits there are still some growing pains as the judiciary sorts out the process.

The Davis administration passed the Court Services Act in 2024 that officially took effect on July 1, 2024.

The legislation made way for the court to have autonomy and manage itself.

Sir Ian also highlights the shift to an electronic platform.

As we head into a new year, the chief justice is hoping to see advancements in the criminal justice reform process.
