CHINA – Crowds of residents in southern China’s industrial metropolis of Guangzhou escaped compulsory lockdown and clashed with police amidst anger over strict coronavirus restrictions boiled over.

Dramatic footage shows police vehicles being overturned and tearing down COVID control barriers. Riot teams were deployed into the area.

It follows Guangzhou’s worst COVID outbreak since the pandemic began.

China’s zero tolerance is under enormous strain. Tensions have been building in cities with stay-at-home orders.
