Chinese Ambassador: “We Don’t Coerce, Threaten, Sanction or Invade, We Want to Be Friends”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The People’s Republic of China is doubling down on its position when it comes to doing business in The Bahamas, saying they’re merely here to make friends and provide win-win relations between both nations, this comes after a warning from the United States on The Bahamas’ diplomatic ties to the Asian nation.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The People’s Republic of China is doubling down on its position when it comes to doing business in The Bahamas, saying they’re merely here to make friends and provide win-win relations between both nations, this comes after a warning from the United States on The Bahamas’ diplomatic ties to the Asian nation.

“Whether it’s Bahamas or China, we have the right and we also have the wisdom to choose who to be our friends and trading partners.”

Following the United States’ warning to The Bahamas about its relationship with the People’s Republic of China.

Ambassador Yan Jiarong, is setting the record straight saying they have no ill intentions.

He comments come after U.S. Secretary of state Marco Rubio cautioned Prime Minister Philip Davis to not be vulnerable to privacy, security risks and exploitation.

So, should Bahamians be concerned?

Yan Jiarong -Ambassador of People’s Republic of China says

“That is to make another friend and to make another partner. Bahamain people have a saying you always want to be friends with people same for China.”

The Bahamas is one of 28 countries that’s a part of the China-Latin American and Caribbean Forum.

A recent meeting was held in Beijing earlier this month.

She says this is just one of many initiatives to support nations in the region.

China and Caribbean countries , The Bahamas, Latin American countries we all belong to the global south, so we have some natural bonds, we have good foundations and good reasons to be good friends.”

When it comes to having to “Choose a side” in the midst of global trade war between the U.S. and China and underlying hostility between the world’s super powers?

“China does not coerce does not threaten, does not sanction or invade others and China was not and is not a colonizer.”
