NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Cancer Society of The Bahamas received a big donation this past week, thanks to The Bahamas Chinese Dragon Boat Racing Association. The inaugural event was dubbed a huge success as eight teams participated. Founding President, Kay Tong says this will be a continued partnership.

President of the Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Rochelle Wilkinson expressing her gratitude for the $5,000 donation. She notes that the care center is a home away from home for cancer patients as they travel from the family islands for treatments.

Kat Bain is one of the cancer survivors that took part in the boat race. She says while it was a bit challenging to convince other survivors to participate, it was an exciting experience.

She noted the sport does offer health benefits, she says even more survivors are showing interest.

Association members say they’ve already planned next year’s race, because the inaugural event was so successful.
