Chisholm Wins American League Silver Slugger Award

UNITED STATES – Bahamian baseball star Jazz Chisholm Jr continues to rewrite history, earning his first American League Silver Slugger Award after a standout season with the New York Yankees.

The All Star second baseman became only the fifth Yankee at his position to win the honor, which recognizes the league’s top offensive performers.

Chisholm hit 31 home runs, stole 31 bases and drove in 80 runs across 130 games, cementing his place among baseball’s most dynamic young players.

Young Bahamian athletes were also in the spotlight at the National Sports Awards, where several juniors celebrated historic seasons.

Sailing standout Eliza Denning made national history with the country’s first gold medal at the Junior Pan Am Games and secured qualification for the 2027 Pan Am Games.

Track and field phenom Eagan Neely earned four gold medals at CARIFTA 52 in Trinidad and Tobago, securing the Junior High Male Athlete of the Year title.

Several Bahamian college basketball players also posted strong performances as their NCAA Division I teams returned to action. Deyton Albury scored 15 points for New Mexico in a win over UT Arlington.

Romad Dean led Tulsa with 13 points and 6 rebounds in their victory against Rhode Island. Fred King opened his season with 13 points and 7 rebounds in Murray State’s dominant win over Mississippi Valley State. Ole Miss guard AJ Storr continued his impressive play with a team high 19 points in a win over Louisiana Monroe.
