Coalition Protestors Call For Top Cop’s Resignation
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The arrest of eleven Bahamians, including a Senior Police Officer, a police sergeant and a Royal Bahamas Defence Force Petty Officer has prompted heated calls for the resignation of the country’s top cop.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The arrest of eleven Bahamians, including a Senior Police Officer, a police sergeant and a Royal Bahamas Defence Force Petty Officer has prompted heated calls for the resignation of the country’s top cop.
The calls came as the Coalition of Independents and crime activists protested outside the House of Assembly this morning.
The indictment, which was unsealed yesterday, names Chief Superintendent Elvis Curtis, Officer-In-Charge of the Airport Division, Royal Bahamas Police Force, Sergeant Prince Albert Symonette and Royal Bahamas Defence Force Chief Petty Officer Darrin Roker as conspirators who helped facilitate the transshipment of tons of cocaine from South America through The Bahamas and into the United States.
With a copy of it in hand, COI Leader Lincoln Bain, says these latest developments warrant the top COP’s resignation.
Also present at the protest was citizens for justice leader Bishop Walter Hanchell.
Hanchell says he’s disappointed that once again, the country has been cast in a negative light
The Commissioner of Police released a statement today calling the accusations a dark moment for the force, adding that any officer implicated will face appropriate consequences.
