AUSTRALIA – Australia’s Gold Coast says it is ready to step in to stage the 2026 Commonwealth Games after the state of Victoria pulled out.

Mayor Tom Tate made the announcement a day after Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said his state would pull out due to cost, claiming it had tripled.

The Commonwealth Games Federation struggled to find a host before Victoria stepped forward last April.
