GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Following the disastrous oil spill in the Exumas, Wednesday, environmentalist Joe Darville is weighing in. He says the company responsible should pay for this mistake.

Save The Bays Executive Chairman Joe Darville says Sun Oil Limited should pay for the damage caused to the environment.

In a statement following the incident, Sun Oil Limited said the crew deployed absorbent pads and containment buoys near the shoreline at sunrise on the day of the spill.

Darville pointed to that devastating oil spill in Grand Bahama back in 2019, noting the true damage is still unknown.

On Thursday, officials said up to 80% of the oil had been recovered.

Darville also expressing concern over the mangrove ecosystem in that area.
