NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Alarming is how Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander described the increase in sexual assault cases last year. He’s advising parents to keep a close eye on their children when they’re using social media.

Police statistics revealing that 2022 saw a 15 percent increase in rape and an 11 percent increase in unlawful sexual intercourses cases.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Fernander revealing sexual intercourses cases involving females under the age of 16. 

Upon taking office, Fernander formed the Domestic Violence Unit.

The purpose of the unit is to provide training for officers on how to effectively respond to gender based or domestic violence situations and collaborate with various government agencies to raise awareness on social issues among other things.

Meanwhile, the top cop is cautioning parents to monitor their children while they’re on the world wide web.
