NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A court has seized more than $11,000 from a Haitian man who failed to declare the money to Bahamian Customs.

Emmanuel Jean Baptiste, 32, was arrested on May 27 at the Lynden Pindling International Airport with $11,360.

While it’s not illegal to travel with large sums of money, travelers have to fill put a form when they are carrying more than $10,000.

Baptiste pleaded guilty to failing to declare the money when he appeared before Magistrate Kendra Kelly-Burrows.

In addition to losing his money, Baptiste had to pay a $500 fine to avoid spending two months in jail.
