UNITED KINGDOM – Over the UK, Health Secretary Steve Barclay says covid and the flu are putting massive pressure on that country’s national health system.

Barclay warns that it will also take some time to reduce the backlog caused by the pandemic.

His comments come amid mounting concerns over hospital delays as the government works on freeing up beds to try and relieve pressure in A&E and on ambulance services.

According to Barclay, people with conditions like heart disease were reluctant to come forward during the pandemic.

This has lead to huge demands now placed on the system.

The government is providing 500 pounds in a winter fund to help hospitals discharge patients medically fit but have no support in the community.
