CUBA – Hundreds of thousands of Cubans gathered in Havana’s revolution square on Thursday for the annual May Day parade, showcasing unity amid economic hardship.

93-year-old Raul Castro made an appearance dressed in a military uniform and president Miguel Diaz-Canel presided over the March and greeted participants.

According to parade participants, the event was a significant moment of “Revolutionary Reaffirmation”.

The Cuban government attributes the harsh ongoing economic crisis to intensified U.S. sanctions, which have severely impacted the island’s economy.
