CUBA – Cubans faced heavy rains and flooding as Hurricane Helene barrelled north.

Helene lashed Cuba with heavy rains overnight, dumping as much as 8 inches in 24 hours across parts of the western tobacco-growing province of Pinar Del Rio, the Provincial Meteorological Service said.

Strong winds and rain flooded roads, tore roofs from homes and uprooted banana plants, destroying precious crops and prompting authorities to close schools and ports across much of the western half of the Caribbean island nation.
