Davis: “We’ll Knock It Right Down, Nobody’s Playing”

ABACO , THE BAHAMAS – The Progressive Liberal Party took its campaign to Abaco on Wednesday night, by hosting a Rally for Progress in Marsh Harbour, where party leaders and candidates made a strong push to retain their hold on the island’s two seats.

Party leader and Prime Minister Philip Davis told supporters that the party is serious about dealing with illegal immigration.

Speakers laid out a series of promises for Abaco, with a strong focus on economic growth and recovery.

Among them was the long-anticipated redevelopment of Treasure Cay, plans for 300 new homes, and increased financial services.

Education and workforce development also took center stage, with promises to expand BTVI programs.

It was Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis who drew one of the strongest responses from the crowd, delivering strong remarks on immigration and enforcement.

“You know I am a Minister of Works and a Minister of National Security. Everything Crown land is for Bahamians, we mean that. And people will come to land, if you build on Crown land without permission, we’re gonna knock it down. We knock it right down, and nobody’s playing”

The Prime Minister also took aim at the opposition, drawing a contrast between what he called action by his administration and talk by the FNM.

“Let me add to that, it will be fine that you have the full documentation to really support you. If you don’t think this is serious, you should ask more than 15,000 persons of the vaccination. More than any government that came before us, we’ve done it with compassion and understanding what the circumstances are. They like to ask for us, have the city held, but they have all sorts of meetings, but it’s not done anything.”

His comments came as issues surrounding shanty towns, including the Farm in Abaco, remain a major concern.

Incumbent Member of Parliament Kirk Cornish and newcomer Bradley Fox, both were confident they can deliver a victory in North and Central and South Abaco.
