NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A dog owner has been ordered to pay $3,000 in compensation to a woman to avoid serving six months in prison.

Ricardo Hinsey pleaded guilty to causing harm by animal after his pit bull and mixed-breed dog attacked Gweneth Rolle and almost severed her hand on September 4.

Hinsey was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine to avoid a default sentence of six months in prison.

Assistant Chief Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux ordered the dogs destroyed.
