DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The U.N. is raising alarm over a spike in pregnant women being deported from the Dominican Republic to Haiti, where hospitals are overwhelmed or shut down due to gang violence.

Rights groups say many of the women arrive in dangerous conditions, with little or no access to care.

This comes as the Dominican government ramps up id checks at hospitals, arresting dozens of pregnant women and new mothers.

Amnesty International is urging the crackdown to stop, calling it discriminatory.
