NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An emotional scene at Free National Movement headquarters on Mackey Street last night. Family members, party officials, and scores of supporters coming together to remember slain former MP Don Saunders.

Some of those in attendance viewing Saunders’s body for the first time since his tragic killing in Gambier Village on March 27th during what police described as a robbery gone wrong.

Among those giving tribute was party leader Michael Pintard. The family was also presented with the Torch Bearers Youth Association Lifetime Achievement award now called the Don Saunders Award. An organization Saunders once served in.

This morning, Saunders’ body lie-in-state at the House of Assembly. An opportunity for parliamentarians and other public officials to sign the book of condolences and pay respects to the family.

FNM Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright says the loss is personal.

A state-recognized funeral will be held for Saunders Friday at St. Agnes Anglican Church.
