NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The biggest local celebration of the Bahamian baseball culture returns this week for its seventh edition.
Festivities officially begin Wednesday and will continue throughout the remainder of the week for the Don’t Blink Home Run Derby in Paradise 2024.
After a meet and greet Monday morning at Dunkin Donuts, the first event on the schedule will be tomorrow’s youth baseball camp from 4-6pm at the Andre Rodgers National Stadium.
Thursday afternoon will feature two events on the field – the minority baseball prospects organization will host a showcase of the top local and high school players, followed by the celebrity softball game at 8pm.
Away from the field, Thursday’s schedule will also include a star-studded golf tournament the Royal Blue Golf Course at Baha Mar.
The main attraction of the week will be “the greatest show on sand” Saturday, at 1pm on Montague Beach.
Meanwhile, it was a heartbreaking loss for Team Bahamas in the gold medal game of the U-15 Caribbean Baseball Cup.
Cuba claimed the title with a 1-0 win over the hosts Monday night at the Andre Rodgers National Stadium.
A complete turnaround from the 19 runs between these two teams in their first matchup, the championship game turned out to be a pitcher’s duel between Cuba’s Sarduy Pedroso and The Bahamas’ Colton Cubbage.
Pedroso finished with 12 strikeouts and gave up a single hit across six innings while Cubbage gave up three hits with seven strikeouts in his six innings of work.
Damian Diaz Duardo’s rbi double in the fifth inning was the deciding factor in the game and drove home the game’s only run.
The Bahamas finished with a 4-1 record and the silver medal.
Basketball
One of the longest running basketball tournaments in the school sports system, plans were announced for the 36th edition of the Father Marcian Peters Basketball Tournament.
The event will be hosted december 13-18 at three locations.
A total of 53 teams from throughout the country will compete in the six divisions.
The field includes 13 junior boys teams , 10 senior girls, 10 junior girls, 7 primary boys, 7 primary girls, and 6 intermediate boys.
Both primary divisions, junior girls, and senior girls will be hosted at the Kendal Isaacs Gym.
The junior and intermediate boys will play at the A.F. Adderley and D.W. Davis Gyms.
All of the playoffs and championship games will be hosted at the Kendal Isaacs Gym.
NCAA Football
Two sport star Khory Moss is headed to Division I football.
On national signing day, Moss officially joined head coach Chuck Martin’s 2025 recruiting class at the University of Miami (Ohio) Redhawks.
The 5’11 188 pound defensive back is the latest talent produced out of the pipeline from The Bahamas to Rabun Gap High School in Georgia.
At Rabun Gap, he earned all-state as a senior after recording 60 tackles and two interceptions.
He also had two sacks, nine tackles for a loss, seven pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
Off the field, Moss is also an elite sprinter, competing in both the 100m and 400m.
