Dorsett, Cadet Named Athletes of the Week

UNITED STATES – Georgia Southern sprinter, Shatalya Dorsett, has been named Sun Belt Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks after a standout performance at the UNLV Rebel Elite Invitational.

UNITED STATES – Georgia Southern sprinter, Shatalya Dorsett, has been named Sun Belt Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks after a standout performance at the UNLV Rebel Elite Invitational.

The junior from Freeport won the 200 meters in 23.10 seconds, the third-fastest time in program history, and finished second in the 100 meters with a personal best 11.23 seconds.

She also helped Georgia Southern claim bronze in the 4×100 relay. Dorsett currently leads the Sun Belt in the 100 meters and ranks second in the 200.

In the Western Athletic Conference, Jalen Cadet won Field Athlete of the Week for the Texans.

He finished third in the long jump at the Texas Relays with a leap of 7.66 meters, the best mark in the WAC this season and 27th in the NCAA.

Tennis

In year two, the EV Motors Open is quickly establishing itself as a mainstay on the local tennis calendar.

The second EV Motors Open wrapped up over the weekend with strong support and an exciting finish, bringing together players, organizations, and fans in the local tennis community.

Better Homes and Gardens, GSM Tennis Solutions, Sign Island, and Esso made up the final four, with GSM Tennis Solutions, led by Nikkita Fountain, claiming the title for the second time.

Standout players Rasheed Carey and Paola Lopez powered the championship run, with the team driving away in two brand-new 2026 Jetour Dashings.

Carey called the event a “family reunion” for the tennis community, while EV Motors management praised the unity and wellness promoted through sport.

Fans also enjoyed an auto show featuring gas, electric, and hybrid vehicles.

The EV Motors Open is set to return in October.

Soccer

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes men’s soccer team has claimed the Bahamas Men’s Soccer League title in dominant fashion.

The league leaders sealed the championship with an 11-0 rout of Cavalier F.C. at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.

Dynamos F.C. helped the Mingoes clinch by defeating second-place Western Warriors.

At 10-1-3, UB leads the table with 33 points, ahead of Dynamos with 28 points and just one game left to play.

Captain Ronaldo Green led the way with a first-half hat-trick, while Kevin Thomas added a second-half hat-trick. Philip Pilgrim scored twice, with Mider Dalmasse, Rolph Gervais, and Clerdjivensky Clerjuste also finding the net.

After back-to-back third-place finishes, they captured their first league title since the 2017–2018 season.

UB closes the season against Western Warriors on April 19.
