NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Urinary Incontinence, or the involuntary leakage of urine, is common – affecting 50% of adult women, increasing to 75% in women over 65.

Dr. Laurphile Desrosiers is at the forefront of Urogynecology in the region. She is the only specialist of her kind in the country dedicated to addressing these types of pelvic floor disorders.

Desrosiers says some women do whatever they can to avoid facing the issue head-on. She says they are much better off seeing their doctor than avoiding the problems.

Dr. Desrosiers says she also treats pelvic organ prolapse. She describes this as feeling like something is falling out of the pelvis. She says the complications can also affect bowel movements and cause constipation.

Drawing from her wealth of experience, Dr. Desrosiers highlights the range of treatment options available, from noninvasive procedures to pelvic floor therapy.

Desrosier treats patients in New Orleans and New Providence and operates from Doctor’s Hospital and Centreville Medical Center.
