NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Roughly 20,000 voters have submitted applications to cast their ballots on Advanced Poll Day which is set for April 30th, and more than 400 voters have requested to vote overseas. This will occur on the same day at various missions around the globe.

The information was provided by Parliamentary Commissioner Harrison Thompson.

Our Denielle Miller spoke with Thompson at his office in the Parliamentary Registration Department on Saturday, where he indicated that just because an individual applies to vote before the general election on May 12, it does not guarantee that they will be authorized to do so.

He explains this:

Harrison Thompson – Parliamentary Commissioner

“Once your application is in we will issue an L-form to you indicating that you have been certified on the advanced poll register, and you’re eligible to vote in the advanced poll.”

Thompson states that this certification may be received immediately or through the mail.

He further mentions that voters in law enforcement agencies or individuals working at polling stations are automatically granted approval, however this year, there have been some exceptions.

“We have added some journalists and some judges of the court. Persons who might be engaged on that day, [so] we tried to be as inclusive as possible.”

He further states that if you are on the register for the advanced poll and fail to cast your vote on April 30th, you still have the option to vote in the general election on May 12th.

However, if you were authorized to vote overseas, the same does not apply to that individual.

Harrison Thompson – Parliamentary Commissioner

“If your name is on the register for the overseas poll, it will not be included on the general election poll on the 12th of May.”

Thompson also says there will be twelve advanced polling stations across New Providence. So, for that listing, visit our social media platforms.
