NEW YORK – A 4.8-magnitude earthquake rattled near New York City this morning, surprising residents in an area unaccustomed to such seismic activity.

The quake’s epicenter was in Tewksbury, New Jersey, about 40 miles west of NYC.

While no major damages were reported, officials cautioned about potential aftershocks.
