NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Two men were arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court for burning down homes in Eleuthera in an attempt to cover up break-ins and thefts.

Prosecutors allege that Benjamin Martin, 30, of Harbour Island, and Carlos Wilson,  22, of Lower Bogue, broke into Robert Baird’s home at Ten Bay, Eleuthera on August 29 and stole appliances and electronics.

The men allegedly then burned down Baird’s home causing $850,000 in damage.

On the same day, prosecutors said that Martin and Wilson broke into Adam Lieb’s home and stole a split air conditioning unit and a flat screen television before they allegedly burned the house to the ground.

The men were not required to enter pleas to charges of arson, house breaking and stealing when they appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.

Bail was denied and they are scheduled to return to court on December 13.
