NASSAU , BAHAMAS – It’s been weeks since the Ministry of Environment launched the national cleanup campaign, and officials said that it’s going well, and that they’re looking to expand it.

Since the National Clean-up Campaign was launched, environment Minister Zane Lightbourne, said that his ministry has been able to take tons of debris and garbage out of several new providence communities.

The campaign’s purpose is to crack down on illegal dumping, derelict vehicles, and littering.

Lightbourne said it’s set to expand.

Experts said that a properly executed campaign can protect the environment by directly removing waste from ecosystems, preventing hazardous materials from contaminating waterways, oceans, and wildlife habitats.

These initiatives also reduce plastic pollution, improve public health, strengthen community bonds, and raise awareness that often drives long-term behavioral changes and policy improvements.

The environment minister said that it’s an initiative that needs a bi-partisan approach, and they’re looking at promoting the campaign in local schools.
