Ex-RBDF Marine Faces U.S. Gun Smuggling Trial

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former Royal Bahamas Defense Force marine accused of trying to smuggle nine guns and 15,000 rounds of ammunition from Florida to The Bahamas is set to go on trial in December.

Thirty-seven-year-old Ray Strachan is expected to appear before U.S. District Judge Melissa Damian on December 14.

Court documents allege Strachan was absent without leave from the RBDF when he was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol officers on April 18.

Officers allegedly found two pistols in the bed of the truck Strachan was driving, after he identified himself as a law enforcement officer and told them about the weapons.

A search of the truck’s storage bins allegedly turned up seven more firearms, 15,000 rounds of rifle ammunition and multiple high-capacity magazines.

Prosecutors allege Strachan was headed to a marina, where the contraband was to be taken by boat to The Bahamas.
