WORLDWIDE – Extreme heat can affect medications in various ways, from degrading insulin and causing inhalers to explode, to compromising the effectiveness of epinephrine injectors like epipens.

Health care providers say certain medications, such as those for blood pressure and pain relief, can worsen heat-related issues by affecting fluid balance and increasing sensitivity to temperature extremes.

With climate change exacerbating these risks, doctors say more research is needed to understand which medications are most vulnerable to heat-related impacts.
