NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The 2023 Exuma Junkanoo parade is now in the country’s history books, as three groups competed for the top prize. However, one of those groups expresses concerns about the way the parade was judged.

The Exuma Mighty Warriors gave it all they had at the January 6th parade, with their theme: Majority Rule, The Road to Independence and Beyond.

But, it wasn’t enough for the group to reign victorious.

Leader of the George Town-based group Oliva McPhee says he feels as though the group was not fairly judged.

McPhee says they’d like to see changes in the judging system moving forward.

And, while he believes they dominated in categories like music and choreography, McPhee admits that they may have fallen short in costuming, due to their lack of finances which is why he’s appealing for financial assistance moving forward.

But, despite their disappointment in the results, he says it won’t shake their love for Junkanoo.
