UNITED STATES – ExxonMobil has inked a deal to explore over 2,700 square miles off Trinidad and Tobago’s east coast in waters more than 6,500 feet deep.

John Ardill, VP of Global Exploration, said the project could replicate Guyana’s oil boom but warned there’s “no guarantee of success.” A geophysical survey will begin within six months, followed by test drilling.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the deal strengthens energy security while maintaining oversight, rejecting calls to limit hydrocarbon use amid climate concerns. ExxonMobil last explored in the country in 2003 without success.
