NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Field events highlighted the morning session on day one of the Bahamas National High School Track and Field Championships.

Koi Adderley just missed the medal podium at the CARIFTA Games in Grenada but claimed the national championship in the U-20 girls high jump.

Adderley tied her personal of 1.70 meters to take first place.

Under the theme ‘Reining in a New Era of Sports Excellence,’ the four day meet won’t crown an individual overall champion; teams are vying for individual titles in the u13, u15, u17, u20 divisions.

The final day will include a test event for the World Athletics Relays Bahamas and the top three schools in those events will also compete in the ‘showdown in paradise’ pregame show May 4-5.

Winners of both the u20 boys and girls 4x100m will also be rewarded with trips to the Penn Relays.

Baseball

D’shawn Knowles was recently promoted to the highest level of his Minor League career and achieved a new milestone.

Four games into his tenure with the Salt Lake Bees, Knowles got his first triple a hit in an 8-1 win over the las vegas aviators.

Knowles singled in the fourth inning to score Zach Humphrey to give the bees a 5-0 lead.

The five game series against the aviators continues through April 14.

Rowing

There may be unexplored rowing talent in The Bahamas capable of securing collegiate scholarships.

That’s the impetus behind the Nassau Rowing Club establishing the opportunities and access rowing squad.

Rowing maintains one of the lowest applicant to scholarship ratios across all NCAA sports.

The club has established a talent identification system through oars which has hosted several public schools over the past three years.
