NASSAU, BAHAMAS – May is dubbed Mental Health Awareness Month and the team at Sandals Royal Bahamian is running with it, literally.

Led by the General Manager, Adrian Whitehead, team members at the resort will be engaging in various 5K runs all month to aid with the fortifying of their mental well-being.

“Exercise is a great way to combat issues with mental health. It gives us something to focus on, keeps us goal oriented and it is a great way to reduce stress, anxiety and depression,” Whitehead shared.

Whitehead and more than 20 members of his team knocked out their first 5K for the month when they participated in the Cancer Society of Bahamas’ run/walk event on the weekend.

Some team members are calling it a win-win because of its value to them and what the proceeds are geared towards.

“I really enjoyed waking up early and coming out for the run. I know for a fact that running helps me to clear my mind and release stress so I believe this is a good initiative. I am excited about the next one and the icing on the cake is that all the runs that we have lined up are also for a worthy cause,” shared Marline McDonald, housekeeping supervisor at the resort.

Some members of the team are already calling for the initiative to go beyond a month but Whitehead suggests taking it in strides.

“We are taking it one day at a time. This is very beneficial and I am not averse to going for longer but let’s see how this month ends and how our bodies and minds feel,” he said.

The team is currently making preparations to take on another run, this time it will be in aid of lupus as May is also recognized globally as Lupus Awareness Month.
