NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Back on May 31st, the Neely family escaped with their lives and little else after their Yellow Elder home went up in flames.
Revisiting the site Tuesday, construction was well underway, with exterior walls up and reconstruction of the roof underway.
Captain Whitfield Neely is one of the most decorated officers to serve on the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, a national hero and one of 15 survivors of the HMBS Flamingo tragedy in 1980.
He says one of his long-time friends and former marine is the contractor on the project and two other workers are helping get the job done.
His son, Osano Neely, says his father’s strength and resilience is something that makes him the perfect role model.
The neely’s say they hope to move in by christmas…
