FNM Leader Shoots Down Claims Former PM Can’t Speak at Party Events

NASSAu, BAHAMAS – Free National Movement (FNM) leader Michael Pintard shot down claims made by former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis.

Dr. Minnis told reporters on Wednesday that he is not allowed to speak at any FNM event, adding that he feels slighted.

But Pintard has a different take.

“He’s also a member of the executive, which is the board of directors of the party. He has not attended a meeting since 2021. He’s a member of our council, has only been to one meeting since 2021. All of these are forums where you have an opportunity to speak to all of the persons who make the most pivotal positions in the Free National Movement. He is welcome to all of those meetings to share those views.”

The FNM leader says he is disappointed by the timing of the former party leader’s remarks.

“At a time when the public wants an open, transparent, independent inquiry into matters related to the police force and segments of the judicial or law enforcement community, it is troubling that any of us would be narrowly focused on personal grievances that are not accurate.”

Both Pintard and Minnis, the former FNM leader, ran for party leader at the FNM’s convention in June. Pintard defeated Minnis with 486 votes to 163.

Pintard says Minnis’ comments are surprising, given that he declined the opportunity to speak at the convention.

“The former leader and myself both had an opportunity to agree that we would speak to our supporters no matter what the outcome was. He was spoken to, written to, etc., and the documentation of him being written to is there.”

“What we need is to train our focus on the challenges that Bahamians face, an unfortunate job that is being done by this government, and we invite our former leader and all others to participate in that process.”
