NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The decision to pull the party’s support from former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is getting mixed reviews from many, those who voted him in and those who served with him.

But perhaps the most vocal of his colleagues, former FNM Cabinet Minister and Democratic National Alliance Leader Branville McCartney, McCartney is questioning the move.

Branville McCartney – Former FNM Cabinet Minister
“The question is, why would they do that in light of the fact that they are still asking Dr. Minnis to help out with the party, to help whoever they decide to become the candidate for Killarney, to help and guide them there? If you are going to ask for their help, why remove him? If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”

On Sunday, FNM Leader Michael Pintard told a packed Mackey Street headquarters that he asked Dr. Minnis to not run in the upcoming general election.

Pintard said the reality is, not everybody is going to serve as a candidate to demonstrate their value.

Pintard, however, admitted that Minnis didn’t agree to not seek re-election.

McCartney says he has spoken to Minnis since the announcement but was tight-lipped on the conversation. Dr. Minnis has been unreachable in recent days. Sources close to the matter tell us he intends to meet with his core team in the coming days.

Branville McCartney – Former FNM Cabinet Minister
“I don’t know what Dr. Minnis is going to do. If Dr. Minnis decides to run, I believe that he would be successful in any form that he runs.”

Porky Dorsett – Resident, Killarney
“Without Dr. Minnis, there is no Killarney. If he doesn’t be there, I think y’all going to get beat too.”

Resident – Killarney Constituency
“Yes, he’s the best MP. He’s the best. Do you think the FNM can win without Dr. Minnis?
Can’t do it, by no chance. Can’t do it.”

Former party leader Tommy Turnquest believes the party is moving in the right direction, adding he’s not concerned about the Killarney seat leaving the FNM.

Tommy Turnquest – Former FNM Leader
“I think the party has to continue to talk to the Bahamian people and represent the Bahamian people and move forward.”
