Former PM, and FNM Leader Slams Govt. Over Fake Documents

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Foreign Affairs Minister and South Beach candidate Darren Henfield accused the Davis administration on Thursday night of failing to protect the country’s borders and national documents.

“The PLP government, this government, has compromised the sovereignty of the Bahamian people, passports sold, Bahamian voter cards handed out like candy.”

That issue would become a central theme of the night, with speaker after speaker urging supporters to vote the government out over what they called a failure to address the controversial matter.

Former prime minister Hubert Ingraham also took the stage, expressing deep concern over the controversy.

“The governing party has yet to show any outrage over this. It’s outrageous. It angers me that foreigners can be waving our Bahamian passport.”

Ingraham, who is scheduled to speak in Abaco Thursday tonight at the FNM’s South Abaco rally, noted that he was surprised to learn that fake passports were in the possession of those with work and spousal permits.

He went on to warn that if the issue is not addressed, Bahamian travel documents could lose their credibility internationally, making travel more difficult for Bahamians.

FNM Leader Michael Pintard also targeting Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis, questioning why he has remained silent on the matter.

“A foreign national caught with two voter’s cards for two different constituencies, yet the prime minister and PLP have been silent. The minister silent. Is this progress?”

The rally comes as PLP Chairman and Foreign Affairs Minister, Fred Mitchell, continues to push back against the claims, insisting there is no evidence of fraudulent documents impacting the election despite multiple arrests.
