NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Months after The Bahamas made a commitment to assist and stabilize Haiti, the United Nations approved a year-long multi-national security mission to the Caribbean country.

Now in an exclusive interview with Our News former prime minister Perry Christie who is a part of the Eminent Persons Group working on a solution for Haiti is giving an update.

That’s former prime minister and member of the eminent persons group Perry Christie explaining their role.

On Monday the United Nations approved a year-long multi national security mission.

It comes nearly a year after haiti requested international help amid challenges with the economy and spike in gang violence.

Kenya has stepped forward with a pledge of 1,000 police. Followed by The Bahamas with 150 people. Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda are also willing to help.

At the time of the interview, the move was being debated by the U.N. but Christie says it will help to restore security and peace.

Christie is labelling the situation in Haiti as difficult.

He says the question now is, how do you go about reconciling differences that exist?

The former prime minister says the issues in the caribbean nation are very sensitive.
