Former PM Son Arraigned on Abortion Charges

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The 43-year-old son of former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis has been accused of performing an illegal abortion on a 15-year-old girl.

Dr Jamil Minnis, a gynecologist, allegedly carried out the abortion at his clinic in Harbour Island on September 4.

Minnis is charged along with two relatives of the teen, who are accused of conspiracy to commit abortion.

Minnis and the women didn’t have to enter pleas when they stood before Senior Magistrate Shaka Serville.

They were denied bail and the matter was adjourned until December 1 for service of voluntary bill of indictment papers.

However, it’s unlikely that they will be remanded to prison since lawyers have applied for emergency bail in the Supreme Court.
